How To Choose A Plastic Surgeon

Choosing to have plastic surgery is an important decision, so is choosing your plastic surgeon. Any licensed physician can call himself or herself a cosmetic surgeon, so the importance of finding a properly trained and board-certified surgeon is paramount. Choosing a doctor who's a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the first step in ensuring quality doctors.

ASPS members have at least 6 years of training and experience in surgery, with 3 years of plastic surgery training. They are board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and trained in all plastic surgery procedures, including breast, body, face and reconstruction.

ASPS members are peer-reviewed for safety and ethical standards prior to attaining the honor of active membership and operate only in accredited facilities.

For example I am double board-certified. This means I am board-certified in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. I fully completed a General Surgery residency, a Plastic Surgery Fellowship and Cosmetic Fellowship. This is over 8 years of training.

I hope you will do your research and choose a well trained surgeon; you owe it to yourself.
